The Magic of Acrylic Ink


Vibrant colours, magical blends, and striking compositions will be your results using acrylic inks! Using watercolour paper, water, and inks Gayle will help you master the five important keys to creating a work worth framing. Relax, drawing skills aren’t necessary because Gayle provides techniques that break through that barrier. Beware: this workshop will definitely make you want to continue exploring on your own!
Audience: 12 years to Adult; Minimum: 8, maximum 10
Duration: 2.5 to 7.5 (ie 1 sessions to 3 sessions; length customized to client preferences)
Cost: $25 per person per session, most supplies included.


Exciting Encaustic

Encaustic dates back to the days of the Egyptian pyramids, yet is a medium that allows you to create stunning modern works! Smoosh, slither, and scrape your way to an abstracted masterpiece following Gayle’s relaxed methods. No brushes; no drawing—just a joyous exploration of using wax and oil pigments with wild abandon.
Audience: 14 years to Adult; Minimum: 6, maximum 10

Capturing Your Soul: Life Mask

A life mask is a capture of your soul at one point in time—using your own face for the base of the plaster sculpture. Don’t panic! Gayle uses techniques that honour individuality and respect the inner self. In the first session, create the mask following steps that ensure you are comfortable, relaxed, and safe. In an optional second session, using acrylic paints you can transform your mask into an abstracted view of self or other. Not all serious, this workshop can also be adapted to theatrical, costume, and other preferences of participants.

Watercolour on Canvas Paint Party

The mystery of watercolours is revealed as Gayle leads you through this adventure on canvas. Create an Interlake scene from a range of choices, as Gayle helps you master the five important keys to creating a work worth hanging. Algae Blooms in Acrylic Ink

Gayle has lake water in her veins, and she loves exploring Lake Winnipeg’s ever-changing beauty and challenges. She will share with you her technique for creating award-winning paintings of algae blooms that threaten the Lake. Barn Quilts – A Road Trip Worth Taking

See Pelican’s Pouch, a barn quilt by Gayle Halliwell, and the Interlake Barn Quilt Trail in a short visual presentation that will be a feast for the eyes. Lake Winnipeg Under Siege

Living on her boat in the summer, Gayle has seen up close and uncomfortably the results of threats to Lake Winnipeg. Stunning visuals will lead you into the world of challenges faced by our great prairie ocean. This presentation requires a/v equipment, can be customized for you from 20 to 40 minutes in length. Also possible is an accompanying Algae Bloom in Ink workshop (1.5 to 2 hours); contact for details.


Lake Winnipeg Imagined

Using vibrant acrylic, squishy clay, and soft watercolour paintings, Gayle will talk about the inspiration behind her creative works and the reasons for her passion. This presentation can be customized for you from 20 to 30 minutes in length, and may require a/v equipment. This can also be an on-location, 2-hour harbour experience.


The Lighthouses of Lake Winnipeg

A touch of beauty, a bit of history, and a lot of interest form this visual presentation about the lighthouses that once dotted the shores of our lake. Some remain, and Gayle will reveal their locations and secrets. This presentation can be customized for your from 20 to 30 minutes. An accompanying workshop option is available for presentations in Winnipeg Beach, and can include a guided visit to the Winnipeg Beach lighthouse nearby for guided photographing, sketching, or plein air painting.


Lake Winnipeg – An Amazing Muse

Dive into Lake Winnipeg with Gayle as she shares decades of images taken of the lake from her floating summer home and her land-locked winter shore. Swim in the beauty of our great prairie ocean. This presentation can be customized for you from 20 to 30 minutes in length, and may require a/v equipment. This can also be an on-location, 2-hour harbour experience.

 Two by Three in Five

Small painting with big impact! Gayle demos a watercolour 2"x3" in less than 5 minutes. Challenge her with your topic, or choose from her favourites list. This demonstration takes about 5 minutes per painting, so about 10 in an hour. You decide how many. An optional workshop on painting small is available: 2.5  hours in length, participants bring a photo of their favourite land- or cityscape, perhaps a travel memory, and paint it first in watercolour, then again (or a second photo) in acrylic--both in a 4"x6" size. No drawing or previous painting experience is necessary, as three keys will unlock the door to your masterpiece! Demonstration: $30 per hour total. Workshop $25 per person; limit of 10 (can be adapted to larger groups, contact for details).
