Artist's Statement

Artist's Talk & Workshops

November 2016

Gwen Fox Gallery, 102-250 Main St., Selkirk MB

Three workshops and an artist's talk focused on the inspiration and techniques used to produce works for the Lakescapes Solo Show.

...a visual artist specializing in the lake, sky and landscapes of Lake Winnipeg using watercolour, acrylics, and clay.

When not on her live-aboard boat Solitude VI, she’s splashing pigment and squishing clay at Studio 410. Morning coffee and sunrise over the lake start her day. Ancestry anchors her to this shore; her close connection to the Lake comes from decades of experience afloat and a lifetime on shore.  Gayle creates award-winning works that explore the stunning beauty and the environmental challenges of her great prairie ocean.

My need to give shape to memories and emotions that were long sublimated by the press of the practical led me to visual arts.  Lake, land, and skyscape memories have deep influence as I create images that explore both the immense and microscopic forces of the lake--physical and metaphysical.

My paintings and clay works represent the conversation that has whispered to me through the lap of waves: an exchange between beauty and fragility.  I  honour the past, highlight the beauty, and caution the future through my works.
